whatchangestheymaybringtoit.Tebookconsistsof9chapterswhich

analyzevariousaspectsofthecomputerizationoflawandthelegalproblems

resultingfromdevelopmentsinIT.

InChapter1JacekJanowskianalyses,howinformationtechnologyand

theInternetinparticularcaninﬂuencelawanditsaxiology.Onthisbasis,he

claimsthattechnologicaldevelopmentisresponsibleforthedestabilization

oflaw,questioningvariouspositionsincludingclassicallegalpositivism.As

aresult,anewglobalandnetwork-relatedlegalcultureisdeveloping,called

Internetlegalculture.

InChapter2JanuszOpilaandTomaszPełech-Pilichowskioutlinethe

basicproblemsofthestorageandpresentationofinformationinthecon-

textofcodingofthemeaningofwordsandsigns.Teyalsodiscussselected

problemsconnectedwiththepermanentpreservationofdataandinforma-

tionstatingitsrelevanceforlegaltextprocessing.Duetothisdiscussionthey

claimthatthestorageandpresentationofinformationisaproblemofthe

digitalizationofmeaning.

InChapter3JerzyDudadiscussesXMLmodelsforlegaldocuments,fo-

cusingontheproblemofdevelopmentofasinglenationalXMLstandardfor

legalpurposesanditscompatibilitywithtransnationalstandards.Hepresents

basicconceptsrelatedtotheapplicationofXMLlanguageinthelegaldomain

andselectedexamplesofXMLSchemasfornationalandtransnationallegal

systems.Onthisbasis,heoutlinesthedevelopmentofXMLlegalstandardin

Polandandanalysesitscompatibilitywithtransnationalstandards.

Chapter4presentsnewpossibilitiesforthesimilarityanalysisoflegal

documents.PiotrPotiopacomparesvariousmethodsofthesemanticanaly-

sisoflegaltexts,showing,howtheycanimprovethequalityofinformation

providedbylawyers.Basedonapresentationofselectedmethodsusedintext

similarityanalysis,heshowsthatanalysisoflegaldocumentsusingsemantic

relationsoflexicalunitsexistinginWordNetgivesbetterresultsthanthose

wheresemanticrelationsarenottakenintoaccount.

Chapter5addressestheissueofchangesintheconsolidationoflegalin-

formationresultingfromdigitalizationoflegaldocuments.Itoutlineshow

on-linepromulgationchangeslegislativepracticesrelatedtothemanagement

oflegaldocuments.Inparticular,theproblemoftheautomationofthecon-

solidationofelectroniclegaldocumentsispresented.Onthisbasis,Wojciech

Cyrulanalysesthequestionofwhetherthemorefrequentpromulgationof
