aestheticsseekssupportoftheadjectivesinordertomove
forward:wewouldrathertalkofpragmaticaesthetics,
engagedaesthetics,cognitiveaesthetics,functionalaesthetics,
everydayaesthetics,practicalaesthetics,orsocialaesthetics,
ordirectourattentiontotheparticularaspectsofreality
anddevelop,amongothers,theaestheticsofviolence,
power,orpolitics,theaestheticsoftheenvironment,built
andnatural,ofpublicspacesor,soappropriatetoday,the
aestheticsofruins.Tisbroadenedperspectivehasrevealed
thepowerlingeringwithintheaesthetic:thejudgments
oftaste,conditionedbyculture,politics,ideologyand
religion,andshapedbyemotionalneeds,appeartobe
lesssubjectivethantheKantianphilosophyclaimed.Our
aestheticsensecanbeguidedorevenmanipulatedtoserve
aspecificagenda.Ontheotherhand,wearemoreandmore
awareofthefactthatitisaestheticattractionandemotional
attachmentthatenableustocultivatearespectfulattitude
totheworldaroundus.5
Artasthemodelofanaestheticobject
Teexpansionofthescopeofaestheticshasbeen
interwovenintothemajorchangesintheWestern
approachtowhatis,epitomizingtheprogressinscienceand
decompartmentalizationofrealityperceivedasprocessual,
interrelatedanddynamic.Inthedustofthefallingtowersof
metaphysics,theonlywayoutseemedtobethereorientation
ofphilosophyandagreatontologicalcomeback-intothe
greeningterritoriesofdirectexperiencethreateninguswith
temporalityandruledbytheprinciplesofuncertainty.
