WhentheSecondWorldWarwasoveritappearedthatfewcustomsbooks
hadremainedandthesefromthe16thcentury,preservedinaverysmallnum-
ber,areonlyarelicofawell-developedcustomssystem.Theyunveiltheimage
oftheinternalandexternaltradeofPoland,firstofallinthelastquarterofthe
16thcentury.Amongthepreservedsourcesfromthe16thcenturyweshould
mentionregistersfromthecustomshouseinOświęcimfrom1525/1526andin
Zatorfrom1548,whicharegoingtobeanobjectofaseparatepublication.Much
moreofthistypeofsourcespreservedforthesecondhalfoftheanalyzedcen-
tury.Theyarebooks(andanexcerptfromabook)fromseveralcustomshous-
es,andalsoaregisterofseizuresofsmuggledgoodsinGreaterPoland(1583)6,
which(exceptCracowregisters)arethethemeofthisedition.Inthisgroupof
