Themainargumentofthearticletendstowardstheassumptionthatthe
visualsphereofcultureisoneofthemostsignificantfeaturesofhuman
agencyanditiscloselyconnectedtotheprocessofconstructingparticular
worldviews.Thescientificdiscoursethatfollowstheissueofvisualityhas
thereforealonghistoryoftransitionsandparadigmshifts,justlikethecul-
turaldiscourseingeneral.Culturalanthropologydevelopedwiththepass-
ingtimealsoitsownwayofseeingthings,especiallywhenitcomestothe
conceptualizationifculturalotherness.Visualanthropology,understood
asanindependentanthropologicalfieldofstudy,gainedwithtimemuch
recognitionamongstothersocialsciences,beingpartofamuchbroader
visualturninthesocialsciences.Whatissignificantthecontemporaryim-
agediscourseshiftsitsmomentumtowardsthe„native’spointofview”
,i.e.
itrecapturestherealityintermsofsubjectiveandculturallyconditioned
waysofperceptingtheworld.
Wemayagreewithafairshareofcertainty,thataslonganthropologyislastingthe
necessityofnseeing”theculturalnOther”wasaconstantcompanionofallethno-
graphicendeavors.Startingfromthebeginningofanthropologicalindependence
asadisciplinelookinguponotherpeoplefromtheethnographer’sstandpoint
becameanimportantinstrumentofcognitioninitstoolbox.enuseful,but
sometimesbymanyalsomistrusted,anthropologicalvisionsofculturecontrib-
utedslowlytothebuildingofamuchbroaderworldvision;aworldbeyondthe
narrowbordersofethnocentricEuropeanandWesterndogmas.Webecameaware
oftheculturaldeterminationsoftheworldviewprovidedbytheeye,oratleast
ofthefactthattheselimitationsexist.Itwasalsoconstructingtheframeworkof
