InhisarticleMartinHaganfocusesontheinitialstageofteacher
educationandprovidesforanimprovedunderstandingofteachergrowthin
thefirststageofcareerdevelopment.Thepresentedresearchresultsshow
thatengagementwithpupils,otherteachers,andvisitingtutorsduring
practicumgreatlyimpactsprofessionalidentitydevelopmentintheinitialstage
ofteachereducation.Furthermore,itchangesstudentteachers’perceptionsof
theparticipants’constructsonteachingandperceptionofthemselvesand
othersasteachers.
ArankaVarga,FanniTrendl,andKittiVitéz,intheirstudypointtothe
factorsrelatedtotheinfluenceoftheacademiccommunityandtraining
programsonstrengtheningindividualandgroupidentityanddeveloping
socialresponsibility.Furthermore,theyshowhowacademiceducationcan
enhancestudentteacherscomingfromaspecificbackground,inthiscase,
theRomacommunity.Nowadays,developingasenseofempowermentand
intersectionality,aswellasresiliencearecrucialelementsofteachers’
education,notonlyinthegroupstudiedbytheauthors.
YeshaMahadeoDoorgakantandRadhaRaniBaichoodrawattentiontothe
importanceofcollegialityasafundamentalprofessionalvalueinanacademic
setting.Collegialitymeansforauthorsmorethanjointeffortstooptimisework
resultsbutalsosocialandemotionalintelligenceandwell-beinginwork-life
amongacademicsinhighereducationinstitutions.Thestudyresultsshow
thatcollegialityeliminatesageandgenderlimitations,facilitatesstartingwork
inanewenvironment,supportseffectiveprofessionaldevelopmentandasense
ofbelongingandidentificationwiththeorganisation.Inaddition,itdirectly
translatesintothequalityofworkandanatmospherethatisparticularly
importantineducatingyoungpeople.
Inthecontextofachangingworld,forteachereducationitisnecessary
todevelopnotonlyprofessionalskillsbutalsosuchtransversalcompetencies
ascriticalthinking,interculturalcompetence,timeandprojectmanagement,
teamwork,plurilingualandinterpersonalcommunication.Inherarticle,Dana
Hanesovápresentstheresultsoftheexperimenttransformingthecurriculum
ofatraditionallanguageteachertrainingcoursetowardsdevelopingstudent-
centrednessandcooperationbetweenstudents,alsoinaninternational
perspective.EquippingteacherswithcommunicationandICTskills,criticaland
reflectivethinkingskills,andsuchfeaturesasopen-mindednessandflexibility
seemtobeaconditionthat,intherealitiesofthemodernschool,willenable
themtostartworkingintheprofessionandstayinitdespiteadversities.
