internetandinstitutionalnetworks,theproductionofdatabases,theneedforinternational
cooperationandtheneedtoovercomecommunicationbarriers,mayeventuallyresultinthe
unificationandstandardisationofterminologyinpublichealthacrossEurope.Withoutsuch
standardisationthesharingofelectronicdataandinformationtransferandprocessingismade
moredifficult.
EffectiveactivitiesinPublicHealthwillalwaysbeconstrainedwithoutcompleteand
up-to-dateinformation.Forthisthedevelopmentofauniform,comprehensiveanduniversal
terminologyforcommunicationappearstobenecessary.Similarlyanormalisedvocabulary,
willdramaticallyassistinprofessionaleducationwhereanincreasingnumberofstudentsare
beingtaughtinasecondlanguageandinthetaskoftranslationwithinsaytheEU.Forthese
reasonsoureffortstounifyPublicHealthterminologyhavebeenundertakennotonlyatana-
tionallevel,butalsowiththeinternationalperspectiveinmind,withsignificantcontribution
onthepartofinternationalorganisations,especiallytheEuropeanUnion.Itistobehoped
thatsucheffortswillbringaboutthedesiredunificationofPublicHealthterminology,similar
tothatachievedinmedicine.
