ShiliinBogdatdusk,fifteenpeoplewereprayingthere.Meantimeanothertencarscame
there.Allofthemstayedovernighttoclimbthemountainnextmorning.Therefore,many
pilgrimssleptinsidethecraterofShiliinBogd.
EventhoughtourismisincreasingintheDarigangaregion,pilgrimagetoShiliin
Bogdisgrowingrapidly.Nowadays,manypilgrimsarrivetoShiliinBogdeveryday,
duetoMongolians’viewthatthemountainisacenterofenergy.Mongoliansstartedto
goonpilgrimagestoenergeticplacesinthe1990s.Theyhavebeenveneratingseveral
energeticsitessuchastheShiliinBogdmountain,the“energycenter”intheDornogovi
province,“mothertree”intheSelengeprovinceandtheGeserlamatombintheTsahir
sum,Arkhangaiprovince.
OriginoftheShiliinBogdmountain
TheShiliinBogdmountainisintheDarigangasum,Sukhbaatarprovince,which
isatthesoutheasternborderofMongolia.PeoplewholiveintheDarigangasumandits
neighboring6sumsarecalledtheDarigangaethnicgroup.In1925Darigangapastures
weredividedamongmanysmallsums.SincethattimeeachDarigangasumhasbeen
developinginitsownway.Theyhavealsousedtohavetheirownlocalplacesofworship
suchassacredmountains.Incontrasttothis,someculturalelementsarecommontoall
Darigangacommunity,forexample,venerationoftheShiliinBogdmountain.
Manyculturesoftheworldhavetheirownspecialrelationshipwithnature.Alsothe
Darigangapeopleconsidertheirlandasaspecial,sacredplace.ItisdescribedintheText1
