Sofar,therehavebeennoattemptsinPolandtodeterminethebodybuild
andbodycompositionofphysicallyactivedeafpeoplewhoregularlytrain
insportsclubs.Televeloftheirbasicmotorskills,i.e.strengthandspeed,
hasnotbeendetermined,either.Tereasonsforundertakingresearchin
thisareaweretheexistingstateofknowledgeregardingdeafathletes,as
wellasthesignificanceofthisissueinthesportsselectionprocessatthe
levelofthePolishnationalteamandintheassessmentoftheplayers)motor
preparednessforsportscompetition.
1.1.Deafandhard-of-hearingpeople
Itisimpossibletoprovidetheexactnumberofalldeafpeopleintheworld.
Tereisalsoadilcultyinquantifyingthenumberofdeafpeopleinpartic-
ularEuropeancountries.Inaccordancewiththe2016data,theWorldFed-
erationoftheDeafassociated,throughnationalfederations(unions)ofthe
deaf,about70milliondeafandhard-of-hearingpeoplefrom133countries
aroundtheworld.Tismeans,statisticallyspeaking,thattherearemore
than526,000deafandhard-of-hearingpeopleonaveragepereachcountry
associatedintheWorldFederationoftheDeaf.StatisticsPolandesti-
matesthatthereareabout850,000peopleaged15-70yearswithhearing
lossinPoland,ofwhomabout100,000speaksignlanguage[Sytuacjaosób
głuchychwPolsce,2014].InPoland,since1955,deafpeople,including
thosewhoarecompletelydeafandusethePolishSignLanguage,havebeen
unitedbythePolishAssociationoftheDeaf.TeAssociationcontinuesthe
traditionofthe‘Opatrzność)(‘Providence))ChristianSocietyoftheDeaf-
