offers.Afterthescoringsystemhasbeenpreparedanyalternativefromtheset
offeasiblealternatives(i.e.thosedefinedinthetemplate)canbeevaluated
intermsofutilityassignedtothisalternative.Sincethepreferenceanalysis
approachthatwehaveappliedinNegoManagesystemoperates9similarlytothe
conjointanalysisapproach9withcompleteoffersandthecorrespondingscore
definitions(afullpackagemustbespecifiedandevaluatedbythenegotiators)
wemayfacetheproblemofnegotiatorconsistencyinspecifyingdifferent
examplesofoffersandtheirscores.Itmayappearthattwoverysimilar
packagesareassignedtotwoseparateindifferencesetsthatdiffermuchinterms
ofalinguisticutilityevaluationorthatthepackagesassignedtoone
indifferencesetdiffertoomuchtohaveassignedthesamelinguisticutility
label.Ifso9wesaythattheproblemofpreferenceconsistencyoccursand
consequentlycorrectiveactionsneedtobeundertakenbeforethefinalscoring
systemisdeterminedandusedfortheevaluationofoffersintheactual
negotiationphase.
Inthispaperweproposeasimplemechanismforverifyingthe
consistencyofnegotiators’preferencesthatweapplyintheNegoManage
system.ThepreferenceconsistencycheckisbasedontheconceptoftheJaccard
indexallowingformeasuringthesimilaritybetweenfuzzysets.Sincethe
NegoManagepreferenceelicitationapproachallowstoobtainthecharacteristics
ofequivalencesetsintheformofprobabilitydistributions9wemayfurther
considerthesefunctionsasfuzzysetsmembershipfunctionsanduse
thedistributioncharacteristicstocomputetheJaccardindexforeverypair
ofequivalencesetselicitedfromthenegotiator.TheJaccardindexesmeasure
similaritybetweentheindifferencesetsdefinedbythenegotiator.Ifforanytwo
setstheJaccardindexistoohigh9itisrecommendedtoreconsiderthesetwo
indifferencesetsbyanalyzingboththeexamplesofoffersconstitutingthesesets
andthevaluesofutilityscoresassignedtothesesets.Itmayappearthat
itwouldbereasonabletojointhesetsordifferentiatetheiroriginalscores
toobtainamoreaccuratefinalscoringsystemofnegotiationoffers.

generalideaofelicitingpreferencesofnegotiatorsintheNegoManagesystem.
TheninSection2wegiveadeeperinsightintothemethodofdefining
thepreferencesbymeansofindifferencesetsthatweproposedearlierin
theNegoManageNSSanddiscusstheissueofkerneldensityanalysisrequired
fordeterminingthemaincharacteristicsofthesesets.Wepresentalsobriefly
themajorideaoftheJaccardindex(Section3)andthepossibilityofinter-
changebetweenthetwoalternativeapproachestodescribingtheindifference
