byRudyardKipling’s1901novelKimandfirstusedbyCaptainArthurConollyof
theEastIndiaCompany’sBengalArmyin1840,directlyreferstothe19th-century
competitionbetweentheRussianandBritishempiresforcontroloverCentralAsia.
