chargesforexistingpersonalpensionproducts.ForanIrishLifepersonalpension
therewasaflatratechargeof63.81percontributionwhereas5percentofeach
contributionwasdeductedforthestandardPRSAandtheannualmanagementfee
fortheIrishLifepensionwas0.9percentcomparedwith1percentforthePRSA.
ThecappedchargeforastandardPRSAof5percentofeachcontributionisthe
sameastheusualchargeforapersonalpensioncontractbuttheannual1percent
chargeleviedonthevalueofthefundishigherthantheusualannaualchargeof
0.75percentofthevalueofthefundforapersonalpensioncontract.Thenoteby
O’Quigley(2003),whichprovidestheinformationontheusualchargesforperson-
alpensioncontracts,pointsoutthatthechargesforastandardPRSAare”notpar-
ticularlylow”andthatchargespercontributionforpersonalpensionsare“fre-
quentlyless”than5percent.Althoughtheannualchargeof1.25percentofthe
