1940s,despitetheirlongtime
closeassociationandadearth
ofworkinhisownoffice,
Jeanneretpreferredtosteerclear
oftheatelieronRuedeSèvres,
whichhadbecomecrowdedwithnewemployeesinthe
rampingupofactivityaroundthecommissionforthe
Unitéd’HabitationinMarseilles,oneoftheemblematic
projectsofFrance’spostwarreconstructionprogram.14
Hansen,whohadtheopportunitytoobserveJeanneret’s
relationswithLeCorbusierfirsthand,couldnotfail
toappreciatetheSwiss-Frenchmaster’stalents,
especiallyafterseeingtheMarseillesblockunder

tempered.HewouldlatercometoviewLeCorbusier’s
monumentalarchitecturalegoasantitheticaltothe
objectivesofOpenForm.
AmongtheprojectsonwhichHansenworkedwhile
inJeanneret’sofficewasahousingschemefor40,000
inhabitantsintheParissuburbofPuteaux.Thisintroduced
himtoanissuethatwouldpreoccupyhimthroughouthis
