ofPersia,whosemarriagetoEstherensuredfreedomandprivilegesfortheJews.Inthis
self-portraitthisdualityappearsintheformofaseriesofdichotomies-povertyand
wealth,thetragedyoffate,andgoodfortune,andfinallythemiseryofthepresentin
comparisonwithamagnificentpast.Anatmosphereofsorrow,anexpressionofsuffering
