IntheACcase,astablePDwithatleasttwopulsesperperiodwasassumed,where-
asintheDCcase,thePDIVismuchtrickierduetotheultra-lowrepeatabilityas
comparedtotheACcase.Thus,thisshouldbeinterpretedasadetectionlevelin
thiscase.Inpractice,dischargemeasurementsareusuallymadewiththeapplied
DCvoltagebeingequaltoorseveraltimesgreaterthantheinceptionvoltage
[MELV65].Theoretically,thePDinceptionvoltagewithDCvoltageshouldreveal
similarvaluesforhomogenousspecimenswiththesamegeometry.Itismaterial-
independenttosomeextentandmainlyinfluencedbytheproportionofthelayer
thickness.However,thePDpulserepetitionrateisheavilyinfluencedbythemate-
rialresistivityandcapacitanceofthevoid.ItwasshownthatthestaticPDincep-
tionvoltageisdeterminedbytheresistivityofthedielectricmaterialadjacentto
thewallvoidandisnotinfluencedbythegasresistivity(usuallyafewordersof
magnitudehigher).Thisis,ofcourse,oneoftheinceptionconditionsapartfrom
thestartingelectronavailabilityandavalanchemultiplicationfulfillment.
