(43).Sowearebackwithinteriority,thistimeeasilyreachedwith
thegirlofferingherselfastheobjectofdesire.However,thiseasy
andsupposedlynaturalinteriorityofthebeautifulgirlofpleasure
(sounlikethebarbarianwhoisstockyandshapeless)isofcourse
nothingbutartificeintheserviceofthemaster,evenifitisreflected
intoitselfasbelief:KThefriendwhofirstrecommendedhertome

keptwithintheboundsofthepleasureprinciple(thatis,itisulti-
matelyundecidablewhetheritisKreal”orstagedenjoyment5),which
leavesthesymbolicidentificationsintactandallowsthecirculation
ofdesiretobeunhinderedandunproblematic.
Incontrasttothis,whileheiswiththebarbariangirlthe
Magistrateisconfrontedwithhisdisappearancemassagingherbody
hisegotemporarilydisintegratesandheexperiencesaninvasionof
somerendingsubstancewhichisdefinitelynotwhatheencounters
inpursuinghisdesirewiththebird-girlwherethepleasurehegets
isactuallysomethingthatstrengthenshisegoasitstrengthenshis
identificationwiththeimageofalenientpleasure-seekingmaster
