calledglobalization.Theconstructionofthisconsensushastakenplacemainly
throughaseriesofninemajorinternationalconferences[ł].Duringthesemeet-
ings,anumberof‘newparadigms’expressedinanewlanguagewereadopted.
Genderisoneofthem.Theterm‘gender’cameintothelanguageofthedocu-
mentspreparedbyUNMemberStatesintheearly90sundertheinfluenceof
feminists[ł].UNConferences,heldaftertheColdWar,becamethesceneof
aseriesofsilentrevolutions,takingplacethroughlanguageandconsensus[ł].
Lookingatthelanguageofthelegalinstrumentsadoptedbefore1990,theuse
oftheterm‘gender’andexpressionstherefromderivedit[ł]isnotonlynew,
butalsoaturningpointinintergovernmentalspeeches.Humanrightstreaties
relateessentiallytomenandwomen,spouses,parents,mothersorhusbands
andwives,whenraisingtheequalityofallhumanbeings(indignityandinthe
faceofthelaw)orissuesregardingfamily,marriage,andeducationofchildren.
Theyusethewordsexwhenaddressingtheproblemofnon-discrimination.
TheInternationalBillofRightsalsorecognizesthefamily(inthesingularl
not‘families’)forthenaturalandfundamentalbasisofsociety,havingaright
tobeprotectedbysocietyandthestate,basedonamarriagebetweenaman
andawoman,containedonlybyfullandfreeconsentofthespouses,clearly
understoodinthecontextofthesedocumentsasahusbandandawife,aman
andawoman.Itconfirmstheinnerdignitylinternal,thatis,belongingtotheir
ownnaturelofallmembersofthehumanfamily.[ł]Thefunctionofthe
languageistocalltheserealitiesastheyare.Humanrightstreatiesarestill,to
acertainpoint,tohonorthisfunction.Thefunctionofthelawisnotreallythe
creationofrealityandtruth,butidentifyingwhatisright.Ifitisnot,thelaw
anduniversalitywouldbeanarbitrarydictate.Sincethegenderrevolutionisa
processofdeconstructionofuniversalrealities,[ł]itisnotsurprisingthatthe
languagecallingtheserealitiestendstodisappear[ł].Anewsemanticpackage
hasappeared,inwhich[theterm]‘gender’isonlyoneoftheelements.[Oth-
ersare]healthandsexualandreproductiverights(ratherthanprocreation),the
familyinallitsformsordifferentformsoffamily(deliberatelyvaguetocover
‘allpossibleoptions’),insteadof[just]family,safeabortion,freedomofchoice,
stereotypes(insteadofcomplementarity),equalpartners(ratherthanspouses),
pregnanciescalled‘forced’,onlytonameafewexamples.SincetheUNconfer-
enceinBeijing(1995),thelanguagecharacteristicofgenderspreadquicklyin
politicsattheinternational,supranational,national,andlocallevel.”4
Appealsanddemandsaimedatthiskindoftransformationofthinkingcur-
rentlygettoquiteafertilesocialground.Forsometimenow,socialandcultural
studieshaveformulateddiagnoses,whichshowthatpeoplelivingtodayare
