mainpointinthephilosophicaldebateonself-deceptioniswhether
self-deceptionisintentionalornot,andunderscoresomedifficulties
connectedwithbothviews.Inthesecondpartofthepaper,three
modelsofself-deceptionareproposed:thecomputational,the
evolutionary,andtheembodied.HoholandUrbańczykarguethat
intentionalistapproachestoself-deceptionaremorecoherentwith

resultsofempiricalresearchondepression.Hepointsoutthe
importantfactorscorrelatedwiththisphenomenon,underliningthe
roleofneurotransmitters(e.g.monoamineneurotransmitters),stress
(includingneonatalstress)andchangesinbrainstructure(suchas
decreaseinthevolumeoffrontalcortex).Despitethegrowingbody
ofknowledgeconcerningdepression,Vetulaniclaimsthatthe
neurobiologicalprocessesunderlyingthisdiseasearestillpoorly
understood.

andMarcinSiwek,aimsatidentifyingtheneuralunderpinningsof
