Introdution
Theavailableliteratureemphasizesthattheglobalincreaseinproduction
andtradecausedanincreaseinthedemandfortransportservices,whichinturn
influencedthedynamicdevelopmentofthetransportsystem.Manyrepresentatives
ofeconomicsciencesindicatethatthereisacloserelationshipbetweenthedevel-
opmentofindividualsectorsoftheeconomyandtransport,whichresultsfromthe
significanceoftheimpactoftransportinservicingothersectorsthatmakeupthe
entirenationaleconomy.Inordertolimitthenegativeeffectsoftransport,theidea
ofpro-ecologicaltransport,egintermodal,ispromotedinboththeEuropeanUnion
andPoland.Astheliteratureonthesubjectindicates,intermodalitycombines
cost-timeefficiency,min.railtransportorseaoverlongdistancesandtheflexibility
ofroadtransport,hencethepossibilityoforganizingcustomerserviceinthe
door-to-doorsystem.Inorderforthisprocesstohaveachanceofsuccess,
itisnecessarytoperformreloadingoperationsofthesecargounits,e.g.inlogistic
centersorso-calleddryports.
Thepurposeofthishandbookistocharacterizetheintermodaltransport
process,toindicatetheeconomicbenefitsofitsuse,andtoanalyzeitsdevelop-
mentwithparticularemphasisontheroleoflogisticcentersandPKPCARGOS.A.
tooperatethistransportsystem.Onthebasisofin-depthanalysisoftheliterature
andidentifythepracticalaspectsofthisproblems,theauthoradoptedthefollowing
thesisresearch:thedevelopmentoflogisticscentersandrailtransportwillcontrib-
utetothedevelopmentofintermodaltransportinPoland.Theimplementation
ofthistaskrequiredtheuseofselectedresearchmethodsandtechniquesused
ineconomicsciencessuchas:criticalanalysisofthesubjectliteratureandlegal
field,comparativeandcausalanalysis,methodsofdeductionandinductionofthe
observationmethodandmanyothers.
Inordertogivetheworkaninterdisciplinarycharacter,apartfromliterature
inthefieldofeconomicsciencesandmanagement,literatureinthefield
oftechnicalscienceswasused.
Boththematerialsusedforlecturesandexercisesaswellasnumeroussci-
entificpublicationswereusedtodevelopthishandbook.Duetotheirtimeliness,in-
formationfromindustrymagazinesandofficialwebsiteswasalsoused.
Animportantroleinthecreativeprocesshasbeenplayedbytalkswithpractition-
ersfromtheTSLindustry,whowilloutlinethetopicsthathavebeenapproximated
inparticularchapters.
Theassumptionwasthatthetextbookwasdividedintosixchaptersinwhich
theindividualissueswerediscussedinacomprehensibleandaccessibleway.
