Abstract
ThisArticleapplytotheunknownproblembefore2004leavingchildreninthecountryof
originformigrants,calledeuro-orphanandthemediapracticestostigmatizeofYouthfrom
migrantfamilies.ParticularlyimpressivedescribedbyscholarsandjournalistsaretheCon-
sequencesoftheFunctioningoffamiliesspatiallydisjoint.SylwiaUrbańskaissaidabout
Socialpanicandthecreationofanexpertdiscoursearoundeuro-orphan.Thoughtlessuseof
thetermeuro-orphanhoodhasbecomeasourceofvariouscontroversies.Mostmediareports
oneuro-orphanhoodandtransnationalfamiliesdoesnotincludethedirectexperienceof
respondentsbutitisthepresentationofopinionsandattitudesabouttheproblemofthesocial
consequencesofthefunctioningoftransnationalfamilies.Lackofreliable,publiclyavailable
informationonthefunctioningofmigrantfamiliesreinforcesstereotypesand“discourses
migration”.Thearticlediscussestheissuesstigma,marginalizationandstigmatizationof
youthfrommigrantfamilies.
