BarbaraReginaRuszczycwasbornonSeptember18,1928,inVilniusastheyoungestdaughterof
aknownPolishpainterFerdynandRuszczyc.
Havingsurvivedthedarkyearsofthewar,shewasforcedtoleavehernativetown.InWarsaw,
whereshecametolive,shefollowedinthefootstepsofhereldersister,arthistorianDr.Janina
Ruszczyc,andbegantoworkattheNationalMuseuminWarsawin1949.Inthemeantime,she
completedherstudies,receivingadegreeinClassicalarchaeologyin1955.In1972shesubmitted
herPh.D.dissertationonEgyptiantemplesoftheLatePeriod.
DuringheryearsattheMuseumshewaspromotedtothepostofcurator,whichshefilledfrom
1973until1990.Herdutiescenteredonstudyandpublicationofthemuseumcollections,including
importantobjectsliketheFalseDoorofIzifromtheofficial'smastabainEdfuandstonevesselsof
theOldKingdomperiod.ShewasalsotheauthorofguidestotheMuseum'sancientartcollections.
Ascuratorsheorganizedanumberofmajormuseumexhibitions,suchas,forexample,“Ancient
Cyprus”in1968and“ScythianGold”in1976,aswellascountlessregionalshows.Shecoorga-
nizedexhibitionsofwallpaintingsfromFarasinBerlin,Essen,TheHagueandVienna.
