KatarzynastudiedChristianarchaeologyattheCatholicTheologyAcademyinWarsawin
1977-1982.HerinterestinCopticEgypt,especiallyCopticlanguageandliterature,wasawakened
thenandsheembarkedonherfirsttranslationsfromCoptic,publishedintheAcademy'speriodicals.
Havingobtainedherdiploma,shetookupanassistantshipintheInstituteofEgyptologyofWarsaw
University.WhileonscholarshipinEgyptin1985-1986,shemetProf.MartinKrause,who
encouragedhertofurtherherstudiesofthelanguageandcultureofChristianEgyptinGermany.
Katarzynaspentthenextthreeyears,from1987to1990,attheWestfaelischeWilhelms-
UniversitaetinMuenster,preparingadoctoraldissertation,whichwaspresentedin1991andlater
published,onthesubjectofCopticrepresentationsofConceptioperAuremandtheirliteraryproto-
types.
