OBITUARY
ReturningtoPoland,KatarzynaacceptedapositionattheNationalMuseuminPoland,first
intheAncientArtGallery,thenintheCollectionofEasternChristianArt,wheresheworkedas
KeeperofCopticArtuntilhertragicdeath.ConcurrentlywithherdutiesattheMuseum,shetaught
CoptictostudentsattheDepartmentofEgyptologyandtheInstituteofArchaeologyofWarsaw
University.
Exceptionallydevotedtoherworkandalwaysperfectlyorganized,Katarzynalikedtoteachand
likedhelpingstudents.HerdreamwastoestablishinWarsawaseparatecenterofCopticstudiesthat
couldserveyoungscholarsinterestedinthefield.Hercurrentprofessionalinterestscenteredontrans-
lationsofhithertounpublishedCoptictextsfromthePolishexcavationsatNaqluninEgypt.Shewas
alsoconsideringwritingaprofessorialthesisdevotedtoCoptichermeneitexts.
YetanotherdreamthatKatarzynahad-andwasnotgiventheopportunitytoputintolife-was
toreopenapermanentexhibitionofCopticart,textilesespecially,attheNationalMuseumin
Warsaw.Shehaddevotedseverallaboriousyearstoaprogramwhichsheheaded,devotedtothestudy
andconservationofobjectsofCopticartinthecollectionsoftheNationalMuseuminWarsaw.She
hadjustcompletedthefirststageofthisbroadlyenvisionedprojectentitled"ChristianArtinEgypt"
andhadproudlyopenedanexhibitionpresentingtheresults.
Katarzynawasdeeplyandpassionatelyinvolvedineverythingthatshedid.Anavidscholar,she
alsohadthatvaluabletenacitythatissooftenlackinginyoungresearcherstoday.Despiteasensi-
tivenature,sheneverletherselfbestoppedbyanyobstaclesormisfortunes.Sheknewwhereshewas
headedanddidwhateverwasrequiredtoreachherdestination.Anunfortunateaccidentputastop
toherplans.Katarzyna'sprematuredeathhasdealtPolishCoptologyaheavyblow,andthearchae-
ologicalcommunityhaslostinherakindandlearnedcolleague.
