BESIDETHEBASILICA
Clearingworkconcentratedintheareaof
structureslocatedonthelakesideeastof
thebasilica.Aquarterofregularbuildings
wasuncovered,arrangedonaregularstreet
gridandconstructedoflimestoneblocks
andfrequentspoliasalvagedfromearlier
structures[Fig.1].
Teareabehindtheapseofthebasilica
wassetclosetothelake.Itwasdelimited
onthenorthbythequay,thestructure
ofwhichcutsintotherockoftheshore.
Onthesouthside,theshorelineseems
tohavebeennaturalwithoutanyquays.
Inbetween,theshorelinewasbuiltupalong
theentirelengthasaregularwaterfront.
Astreetranbehindtheapseofthebasilica
fromnorthtosouth,separatingthechurch
fromthecomplexofarchitecture,which
covers3486m2(83mN-Sby42m
E-W).Tisarchitecturewaspresumably
connectedwiththeharborinfrastructure,
includingpresumablyakindofcustoms
housedirectlyoftheexitfromthequay.
Itispossibletorecognizeportwarehouses,
shopsandatleastonelatrineandavilla.
Testreetgridfollowsarectilinearplan.
