Abstract:In2011,theprogramofthePolish-EgyptianConservationMissiontoMarinael-Alamein
includedresearchandconservationinthepublicquarteroftheancienttown,atthenecropolisand
inafewhouses.Temissionfocusedontheanastylosisofthesuperstructureofalargetomb(T17),
andcontinuedworkintheareasouthoftheForum,whereremainsofRomanpublicbathsfromthe
2ndtothe4thcenturyADhavesurvived.Currentmaintenanceandconservationworkwascarried
outasusualinsomeoftheancientRomanhousesintheeasternpartofthesite.

housesandatthenecropolis.Despite
limitationsimposedbytheeventsin
Egypt(transformationfollowingtheArab
Spring),mostofthetaskswerecompleted
asplannedthankstothecommendable
efortandcommitmentofthestafof
theEgyptianantiquitiesauthorities.
Teunintendeddelayintheopening
wastakenadvantageoftocomplete
aprogramofstudiesandinventorying.
Apartfromcurrentmaintenanceand
conservationundertakeninthedistrict
ofrestoredprivatehousesintheeastern
partofthetown,theprojectpriorities
thisyearincludedtheanastylosisofthe
superstructureofalargetomb(T17)in
thesouthernnecropolisandcontinued
workinthepublicbathslocatedtothe
southofthecentralsquareoftheancient
town,since2008theobjectofprotection
andpreservationactivitiesbythemission
workingundertheauspicesofthePCMA.
