GeigyepoxyresinsEP-CA521887and521888dilutedintol-
uene.Largerfragmentswereputtogetherandglued;missing
partswerefilledwithaputtymadeofthisresinandmarble
dust.Thewholecolumnwillbereconstructedandsetupon
theoriginalbaseinthecornerofthelatrineperistyle.
Atthesametimeconservationstartedonagreygranite
columnwhichbelongedtothenorthernedgeoftheTheater
Porticoandwhichwasdiscoveredmanyyearsago.Thestrong-
lyerodedsectionsanddeeplengthwisecrackinginthemid-
dleofthediameterpresentaverydifficultproblemforconser-
vation.Theemptyspacesundertherelativelywellpreserved
surfacehavebeenfilledwithorganicmaterialandgranite
detritus.Thesespacesareinaccessibleanditisimpossibleto
removethedetritusthroughthecapillariesortointroduce
andconsolidatingsubstances.Inordertoattachthesurface
andtostrengthentheerodedstructure,smallholesweredrill-
edintheoutersurface,throughwhichitwaspossibleto
clearcanalsleadinginsidethecolumnandfillthemwithPa-
raloiddilutedintoluene.About50%ofthedisintegratedsur-
facewasconsolidatedinthisway.Theholeswerethenclosed
usingaputtymadeofresinsandgranitedustcorresponding
infractiontothestructureofthegraniteinthiscase.The
conservationprocesswillbecontinuedinsuccessiveseasons.
