Thede-
stroyedfacingoftheeasternfacadebetweenthethirdand
fourthbuttresswascleareddowntothefoundations.Ontop
ofthewallproper,runoffsforrainwaterwereintroduced.The
southernendofthefacadewasexcavatedfromthesouth,
uncoveringthecornerofthisoriginalstructure.Archaeolo-
gicalandarchitecturalinvestigationswillbecontinuedin
thissector.
Theatre.Theanastylosisofadeformedpartofthebrick
archinsegmentXofthetheatrecorridor(ambulacrum)was
completed.Thearchhadbeendeformedin1964whenacon-
cretepillarintendedforamodernskyscraperhadbeendri-
venintotheancientsubstanceevenbeforethetheatrewas
discovered.Thedisintegratedpartofthearchwasremoved
andreconstructedwithasmuchoftheancientsubstanceas
couldberetrieved.Themortarusedwasalimemortarmixed
withpowderedbrickandabout5%ofwhitecement.
Thankstothisoperationitwaspossibletocompletethe
excavationsoftheambulacrumandtherecordingofitswalls.
Inthefuture,thewholelengthofthecorridorwillbeopened
totourists.
SectorW1N.InthetesttrenchW1NthewallofRoom3in
HouseHwasconsolidatedandprotectedagainstcollapsing,
creatingconditionsforfurtherconservationworktobecar-
riedoutinthisarea.
