INTRODUCTION
Thisworkpresentsanoutlineoftheinstitutionalandsubstantiveas-
pectsofpoliticalscienceresearchandteachingatacademiccentresin
Anglo-Saxon,GermanandRussianculturalspaces.Inthreechapters,it
givesaninsightintothepresentconditionandprospectsforthedevelop-
mentofpoliticalscienceinGreatBritain,Germany,andtheRussianFed-
eration,withsomebackgroundhistoryanddescriptionoftheacademic
environmentinthesecountries.
Theattempt,undertakeninthiswork,toillustratethemultipleand
variedbasesonwhichpoliticalsciencebuildsitsidentityasanacademic
discipline,ismadethroughdefiningliterarycanonsspecifictothreedi-
versetraditionsofresearchinto,andteachingof,politicalscience:An-
glo-Saxon,German,andRussian.Thisaimwaschosenbecauseofthe
apparentlackofin-depthcomparativeanalysesofthosetraditions,and
especiallytheirliterature.Theresearchhasproducedresultswhichseem
tobeimportanttothedevelopmentofpoliticalscienceasadiscipline.
Theyrevealtheactualconditionofthedisciplineontheonehand,and
mayprovideapremisetomodifytheteachingcurriculaontheother.The
latterisimportantinsofarasintheprocessofeducation,futureresearch-
ersgetfamiliarwithcoreliteratureofthesubjectwhich,toalargeextent,
willdeterminetheirareaofresearch,theoreticalapproach,researchmeth-
odsandobtainedresults.
Theresearchisbaseduponassumptionofdiversityofpoliticalscience
traditionsfunctioninginthelinguistic,culturalandinstitutionalspaces
underanalysis.Itwasalsoassumedthattheconditionofmodernpoliti-
calscienceinGreatBritain,Germany,andRussiashouldbeconsidered
aresultantofnotonlyspecificphilosophicalpreferencesandscholarly
modelswhichfunctioninthosecountries,butalsopeculiaritiesoftheir
currentpoliticalsystemsandinstitutions.
