Summary.Thepurposeofthestudywastodeterminetheroleofthelocusof
controlintheprocessofchoosingaconstructive(task-oriented)ordestructive
(aggressive,avoidant,submissive)copingstrategyinadolescentyouthinsit-
uationsofsocialconflict.TheQuestionnaireforStudyingtheLocusofControl
(KwestionariuszdoBadaniaPoczuciaKontroli,KBPK),designedbyG.Krasowiczand
A.Kurzyp-Wojnarska,aswellastheQuestionnaireforAnalysisofCopingStrate-
giesinAdolescentsinSituationsofSocialConflict(KSMK)byD.Borecka-Biernat
wereemployedinthestudy.Theempiricalstudieshavebeenconductedinjunior
highschoolsonasampleof893adolescents(468girlsand425boys)aged13–15.
Theobtainedresultsindicatethatastrongerconvictionofone’sabilitytocontrol
thenegativeand/orpositiveconsequencesofeventsfacilitatestheapplicationof
thetask-orientedcopingstrategyinadolescentsinsituationsofsocialconflict.The
resultsofthestudyindicatethatadolescentswhoinasituationofsocialconflict
adoptdestructivestrategiesareuniversalintheirconvictionoftheirinabilityto
controlthepositiveand/ornegativeconsequencesoftheiractions.

Introduction
Adolescenceisanimportantstageinlife;itisconsideredaperiodoftransition
betweenchildhoodandadulthood.Itisduringthistimewhennumerousdevel-
opmentalchangesoccur,startingwithchangesinphysicalappearancecausedby
