Summary
ObjectofthestudyarecontemporarymanifestationsofreligiousfundamentalismattheBalkans
underconditionsofconcurrenteurointegration(thecaseofBulgariaisconsideredinparticular).
Followedarethemajorsynchronousanddiachronousfactorsdeterminingthespecificityoffunda-
mentalistphenomenainthecontextoftheBalkans,Orthodoxy,andEurope.Theconclusionisthat
bothhistoricalmeritsandcurrentregulatoryandlegalrealitiessuggestratherapeacefulpictureof
interconfessionalcommunication.Anattemptismadeatgettingbehindthecurtainofofficialpolitical
discoursewherealarmingtrendstowardreligiousintolerancearefoundbothonthepartofIslamand
oftheOrthodoxChurch.
SecularismwhichisalwaysinherentintheEuropeantalkingonreligiousphenomenaisconceived
asinadequateandfuturelessintheinterpretationofrealitiesstageablyexistinginthe„presecularity”
ofpremoderntime–liketheOrthodoxyandIslamattheBalkans.
