ABSTRACT
Introduction
Duetoitsprevalence,especiallyindevelopedcountries,obesityhasbecomeacivi-
lisationdiseaseinrecentyears.InPoland63%ofpeoplelivewithexcessbodyweight.
Terelationbetweentheexcessbodyweightandmanydiseaseshasbeenconfirmed.
Bariatricsurgeryisthemoste¶ectivewaytoloseweight,preventandtreatobesity-
-relatedcomplications.Teaimofthestudywastoanalysetheresultsoftreatment
ofobesityinpatientswhounderwentbariatricsurgery.
Materialandmethods
Weevaluated310patientsoperatedonforobesity.BMI,lipidprofile,carbohydrate
metabolism,HOMA-IRbeforesurgeryand6monthsafterthesurgerywereanalysed.
Results
BMIdecreasedfrom45.2to31.2inLAGBpatients,from35.4to51.2inLSGpa-
tientsandfrom44.9to31.5kg/m2inLRYGBpatients.Televelsofinsulinand
glucoseconcentrationdecreasedandimprovementinthelipidprofilewasobserved.
Conclusions
Bariatricsurgeryisane¶ectiveprocedureinthefightagainstmorbidobesity.All
threesurgicalproceduresreducebodymasssuccessfullyandpermanently.Surgical
treatmentalsoleadstotheimprovementoftheglucoseandlipidprofile.
