Rhetoric-values:contradiction,dreamorfact?
TemottodefinestheproblemIwanttodiscuss.Teproblemoftruth,andthere-
foreofoneofthemostimportantvalues,especiallyinthespecific"collision"with
rhetoric,i.e.avarietyofpsychagogy,isfundamentaltorhetoric.(Cf.PL.,Phaed.,
261A:Isnotrhetoricinitsentirenatureanartwhichleadsthesoulbymeansof
words(speech)[ἡῥηtορiκὴἂνεἴηtέχνηψυχαγωγίαticδiὰλόγων,]).
Teproblemliesinunderstandingthekeyterms.Althoughitisfairlystraight-
forwardtounderstandrhetoric(Spengel1863,481-526;Lichański2017),itisfar
morecomplicatedwiththeissuesofvalueandwhilereadingJózefTischner'slec-
turesoneshouldbefullyawareofthis(Tischner2008).Iacceptthetermplatonic
asworking,butonlyintermsofunderstandingrhetoric.However,thequestion
ofvalueraisesfarmoredifculties.Firstandforemost,itisdependentonthe
speakersystemandtheauditoriumofthephilosophicalsystem.Socanwetalk
aboutrelationshipsofrhetoricandvalues?Yes,inconclusion,theauthorpresents
asolutiontothisapparentdilemma.
