securityarchitectureintheIndianOceanandPacific
Oceanworks,whoarethemajoractors,whichare
thelargestchallenges,andfinallywhatcanbedone
toempoweranddevelopthoseremote,small,and
developingoceanstatesonmanylevels.Thisbookis,
therefore,amodestattempttofillinahugegapinboth
PolishandEuropeanliterature,aswellasanalytical
sourcesoftheIndo-Pacificsecurityandinternationalrelationsinthatregion.
Thesubtitleofthebookis“Commonwealth’spresenceintheregion”asthe
roleoftheUnitedKingdomofGreatBritainandNorthernIrelandcannotbeleft
unsaidwhendiscussingbothhistoricalandpresentpolitical,legal,economicand
defencematters.TheengagementoftheGovernmentinLondon,andpreviously
oftheBritishMonarchshaveimpactedtherouteofdevelopmentofstatesin
boththeIndianOceanandOceania-intheSouthPacific.Aftertheperiodof
decolonization,formercoloniesanddominionsremainstronglyconnectedwith
theUnitedKingdom,eitherthroughtheformalbondbeingthemembershipin
theCommonwealthofNationsorthroughawebofeconomicinterdependence,
nottomentionbelongingnessoftheWesternculturewithitsspecificsetof
writtennormsandcustomarylaw.
ThismonographarrivesatacriticalmomentwhentheIndo-Pacificbecomes
increasinglyimportantforsecuritynotonlyinitsownregionbutalsoglobally.
