cies.ItthusseemsthattheanalysisofreactionstothewritingsofAbicht
turnsouttobemorefruitfulthanjustmentioninghimamongmanyother
“minors.”
ABICHT’SPOSITIONINTHEHISTORY
OFPOLISHPHILOSOPHY
Lastbutnotleast,anotherremarkableissueistobementioned,namely
thehighlyproblematicstatusofthereceptionofAbicht)sphilosophyin
Poland.Itmaybesurprisingthat,althoughAbichtwasactiveinthesci-
entificcommunitiesofPolishthinkers,thereexistsnoPolishreceptionof
histhought.Teonlyexceptionarethecriticalcommentsofthealready
mentionedPolishphilosophers,whoattackedAbichtduringhislifetime.
Nevertheless,duringthelatterperiodinthestudiesconcerningthehisto-
ryofPolishphilosophy-oreveninthestudiesfocusedmorespecifically
onthePolishEnlightenment-nooratbestverylittleinformationabout
Abicht)sacademicactivitiescanbefound.Tefollowingquestionsarise:
Doesonehavetodealinthiscasewitharesearchgaporanintended
omission?Andwhatexactmechanismscausedthisspecificsituationin
theresearchonthehistoryofPolishphilosophy?
TefactthatAbichtisnotpresentinthenarrationofPolishhistorians
ofphilosophymayseemsurprising,especiallyowingtothesignificantrole
thatheplayedatVilniusUniversity,wherehemadehisattempttodirectly
implementtheprinciplesofacademiceducationdominatinginGermany.
AnotherundeniableaccomplishmentofAbichtwashiscontributionto
spreadingawarenessinthePolishacademicworldoftheimportanceof
theKantianparadigminphilosophy.Terefore,theinquiryconcerning
theexactimpactthatAbichthadonthedevelopmentofthePolishEn-
lightenmentthoughtismorethanlegitimate.
Tisinquiry,however,hasnevertakenplace.Yet,somehypothesesex-
plainingwhyAbichthasalwaysbeenexcludedfromthetraditionofPolish
