logue”maygeneratenationalself-annihilation.
Withthissetofvaluesanewsocialplatformemergedforeducation,uni-
fiedintheshapeofauniversallyacceptedandprotestgeneratedsocialethos.
Educationhashaditsprominentparticipationinconstitutingsourcesof
crisis;itwashoweveroneofthecrisiseffects.Thebasicsocialresultsofthe
upheaval1980-1981areofaneducationalnature,whichseemstoremain
outsidetheconsciousnessoftheleadingorganizedforces,thevarioussides
incontractsandconflicts,aswellasoutsidetheconsciousnessofthemasses.
Educationcametothepointwhereithadachancetotransformitself
intoamovementandasocialcause(inregardtogenesis,aims,organization,
subjects,theirfunctioningandtheireffects).Thereemergedaperspectivefor
changingEducation’srolefrombeingsimplythemeansofmanipulating
socialstructureandconsciousnessintobecomingasubjectandaninstru-
mentforsocialself-regulation.
Inotherwords,thehugesocialconflictinPoland1980-1981meansthe
endofEducationasaninstrumentofuniformization,subordinationand
expropriation.
Atthesametimethetardinessofallmajorpartnersofflthefrontof
agreement”toenterintoparticipationinthemassbuildingofeducationas
amovementandsocialcauseistheresultofalongstandinganduniversal
influenceoftheprocessesofalienation,anomieanddeprivation,aswellas
thedomination(overgenerations),ofauthoritarianpatterns,presentincon-
temporarysocializationthroughnaturalgroups,educationalandpara-
educationalinstitutions.Finally,itwasaneffectofoverlappingofflechoes”
ofpersonalitytransformationsunderformerperiodsoftotalitarianisminthe
recenthistoryofthecountry(war,Stalinism).
Abasicpreconditionandaguaranteeoftherenewedperspectiveofedu-
cationareformedbythestructuraltransformationstakingplacewithinthe
socialcontextofeducation,thenationalandsocialmovementtowardsre-
form.However,thedangersfacedbythismovementandthepossiblealter-
native,thatofaflcatastrophe”orrestorationoftheoldsystemaresomeof
theessentiallimitationsplacedagainstmakingEducationasocialcause.
