alllifesituations,hisscientifichonestyinresearchanddiscussionofscientific
problems,andthespecificresultsofhisactivitiesthatstoodthetestoftime.His
book,publishedintheUSAbyColumbiaUniversityPressundertheveryaccurate
titleTruth,Errors,andLies.PoliticsandEconomicsinaVolatileWorld(Kolodko
2011),previouslypublishedin2008underadifferenttitle(Wędrującyświat),and
ahugesuccessinPolandandtheninothercountries,isacollectionofideasof
aman,ascientistandapoliticianonthecomplexprocessofextractingtruthinits
varioustransformationsintoday’svolatileworld.Itisnotonlyimportanttoobtain
thetruth,whichisaverydifficulttaskinitself,butitisalsoimportantforpeople
tomasterthistruth,towhichtheymayhavedifferentattitudesduetodifferent
circumstances.Ihavenotencounteredineconomicliteraturesuchacarefuland
responsibleanalysisofthetransformationsoftruthintheworldexternaltoit,with
verypopularandusefuladviceandreflectionsonhownottofallintoallsorts
oftrapsofapparenttruth,untruth,unconsciousdeceptionandbrazenlies.The
authorgivesaholisticpictureoftheworld,inwhichtheeconomyispresentednot
asaself-sufficientforce,butasacomplexorganismofinteractionswithtechnology
andculture,ecologyandhumanworldviewandalldiversemanifestationsof
humanactivityanditsresults.Andallthisisviewedinaspatialandtemporal
manner,wherethereispast,presentandfuture,andwheretherearecountries
andcontinents,manandtheworldaroundhim,objectiveregularitiesandchaos,
necessityandfreedom,anduniversalinterdependence.
Iwouldliketoemphasisethislastpointinparticularinconnectionwiththe
factthatinmanycasesindependenceasavalueinitselfisputonapedestal.
Butindependenceisonlythefirstnegationofdependence;itdoesnotovercome
it,butisbasedonitintheoppositemovement.Onlythesecondnegation,the
negationofindependence,isthetransitiontofreedom,whereamanandacountry
becomedependentontheirownessence,notonexternalconditionsandforces.
Thisnegationofthenegationofdependenceistheself-knowledgeofone’sown
essenceandone’sowninterests.Itgivesinnerfreedomanditsowngroundfor
development.Therearecountriesthatarestuckinthefirsttransition,inthedenial
ofthepast,ofdependence,withouteverreachingtruefreedom.Themeritof
