InroomL7,aflinttoolwithtracesofbitumenwas
found,aswellasabowl.
Theroomwiththehearth(L7)wasseparated
fromtheroomwiththetannurs(L6)bymeansof
mudbrickwallW19,ca.0.4mwide.WallW19may
bealaterstructure,whileroomsL6andL7may
havecreatedasinglespaceintheirearliestusage
phase.BelowwallW19,ausagelevelcorrespond-
ingtotheusagelevelsinroomsL6andL7hasbeen
identified.
ThenorthernpartofHouse1containedthree
rooms:L1,L2,L3[Fig.3.18].Theirentrancesled
fromthecourtyard.RoomL3is2.0x2.9m;itswalls
werecoatedwithwhiteplaster[Fig.3.19].There
wasadoorwayfromroomL3directlytokitchen
L8.The0.7m-widedoorwayhassurvivedinitsfull
heightof1.3mandistoppedwithahalfcircle.Two
stepsmadeofclayandcoatedwithwhiteplasterled
tothehigherkitchenlevelfromroomL3.Amud-
brickbuttresshasbeenaddedtowallW5.The
north-easterncornerofroomL3featuredasmall
pitwhichwascoveredwithalayerofmudbricks.
Insidethepit,therewaslooseearth,sherdsandan-
imalbones.Ahorseshoe-shapedhearth(H1)was
themainfeatureofroomL3.Thehearthisdefacto
madeupoftwohorseshoe-shapedhearthsadd-
edtoeachother,oneofwhichis0.55x0.60mand
theother0.36x0.64m.Thehearthrisesca.0.40m
abovethefloorand,liketheroom’swallsandfloor,
wascoatedwithwhiteplaster.Thehearthisasolid
structurewithashallow,ca.0.10mdeephollowin
whichthinlayersofashwerefound.Amudbrick
platform(“claytable”),addedtothewallW5ofthe
roomandcoatedwithwhiteplaster,abuttedthe
hearthtotheeast.Itmusthavesomehowservedin
combinationwiththehearth,perhapsitwasuseful
inpreparingthemealseateninthisroom.Room
L3notdoubthadthefunctionofthemainroomof
House1,wheremeetingscombinedwitheatingand
drinkingtookplace.Ontheroom’sfloor,centered
aroundthehearth,8deepround-sidedbowlswith
pointedbases(TypeFB.1.A)and1smalljar(Type
FJ.1)werefoundinsitu,alongwithlargequantities
ofanimalboneswhichconstitutefoodresidue.Six
bowlswerefoundrightnexttothehearth,andtwo
othersinthenorth-westernpartoftheroom,near
wallW4.Thehearthmusthaveservedasagrillon
whichmeatwasroasted(somebonesareburnt
through).MostbonesfoundinL3belongtoatleast
2pigs(includingapiglet’sskeleton).3
RoomL2is1.9-2.3x3.0m.Twothirdsofthe
room’sfloorspaceistakenupbyacircularhearth
(H2)framedwithmudbricks,reachingupto2m
indiameter[Fig.3.20].Thehearthslab,several

gravel.Thehearthwaspartiallydestroyedbythree
pitsdugintothehearthslab.Inthesouth-eastern
corneroftheroom,therewasasmall0.40x0.55m
ovenoftannurtype(05),andnexttoitapit
0.46mindiameterinwhichanimalboneswere
found.AbuttresswasaddedontowallW3.The
buttresswasbuiltoffoursquaremudbricksand
coatedwithathicklayerofwahal.Thefloorwas
madeofpalegreyishpackedearth.Thesouth-
westerncornerofroomL2wasseparatedfrom
therestoftheroomwithasmallwall,ca.0.16m
wide,runningfromthebuttresstowallW6.The
lowwallwasraisedca.0.35mabovethefloorlevel.
Inacorneroftheroom,enclosedinsuchaway,
thereweregreyashylayers,ca.30cmthick,which
werecoveredwithpalegreyishbeatenclay.Some
productsorashsweptoutofthehearthmayhave
beenstoredhere.Twodoorwayswereidentified
inroomL2.0newaslocatedinthesouthernwall
W6andleddirectlytothecourtyard.Itis0.80m
wideatthebaseandhassurvivedtoaheightof
ca.0.85m.Theotherdoorwaywaslocatedinwall
W3andconnectedroomL2withL1.Thedoorway
hassurvivedtoaheightofca.0.70m,isca.
