Single-bricksmallbuttresseswereplacedinthe
upperpartinthemiddleofeachwall.Theywere
presumablythesupportforroofingwhichwasre-
movedeverytimethegranarywasopened.The
granary’sdimensionsare1.5x1.9m.Thewallsof
roomL15(W38,W39,W40,W41)havesurvived
toaheightof1.6m,includingthebuttressesin
theupperpart.Incontrasttothereddishmud-
brickscommonlyusedtobuildstructuresinthe
neighborhood,thefloorofthegranarywasmade
ofpalegreyishmudbricksofanelongatedrect-
angularshape(42x18x6cm).Themudbrickfloor
wasadditionallycoatedwithapalebrownishclay
layer.Thefloorwaspartiallyslopedtowardsthe
northernwall.Thedifferencebetweenthenorth-
ernandsouthernpartwasca.10cm.Thethick
layerofwahalonboththewalls(3-6cm)and
themudbrickfloorenhancedprotectionagainst
moisture.Theuniformashyfillofthegranary
probablyrepresentsdecomposedorganicmatter:
thegrainorfodderstoredinthisgranary.Thefill
alsocontainedisolatedcharredcerealgrains.
ImmediatelynorthofgranaryL15,separated
withwallW35,therewasroomL16.Nofeatures
orsubstantialusagelevelswerefoundhereto
shedlightonthefunctionofthisroom.Taking
intoaccountthesmalldimensionsofroomL16
(1.2x2.0m)andlackofanentryway,itmayhave
servedthefunctionofagranary1likeL151al-
thoughthereisnoconclusiveevidenceofthat.
Approximately0.5mbelowtheusagelevelofL16,
alevelassociatedwiththeearlierroomL17was
uncovered.Thisroom,whichhasnotbeenfully
uncovered,mostprobablycontinuedsouth,be-
lowgranaryL15.Thismaybeattestedbythefact
thatthefoundationofwallW35,whichseparated
roomsL15andL16,waslocatedabovetheL17floor
level.ThefloorofroomL17wasmadeofpalegrey-
ishpackedearth.Inthesouth-westernpartofthe
room,therewasahearth(H7)madeofclaymixed
withgravel,partiallyframedwithmudbricks(vis-
iblefromthewesternside).
TwousagephaseswereidentifiedinroomL18.
Intheearlierphase,thefloorwasmadeofpale
greyishpackedearth.Nofeatureshavebeenun-
coveredhere.Theroommostprobablycontinued
south1thewallenclosingL18hasnotbeeniden-
tifiedinthisphase.Ahearth(H8)wasthemain
featureofroomL18initsyoungerusagephase[Fig.
3.34].Thesemicircularhearth,withdimensions
of1.0x1.7m,wasbuiltofclaymixedwithgravel
andframedwithmudbricks.Thehearthwasbuilt
ontothewesternwalloftheroom(W32).Inthe
room’sfill,abovethehearth,manyfragmentsof
andironswerefoundwhichmayhavebeenusedin
thecontextofthehearth.Therewasnosubstantial
floorlevelassociatedwiththehearth,withashes
