PREFACE
Inthepresentvolumewecontinuethesubjectofchildrenlivingandfunctioning
inmulticulturalsocietiesthroughtheprismofresearch,theoreticalandpracti-
calinvestigations.Weareinterestedincurrentproblemsrelatedtotheincreas-
ingfluxofminorities,refugeesandmigrants.NotonlyintheEuropeanUnion
countries,butalsointhecountriesoftheCaucasus,ArabianPeninsula,Africa
andCentralAsia.Problemsrelatedtothesocio-psychologicalandpedagogi-
calfunctioningofchildren,youthandadultsinthecontemporarymulticultural
societies(affectedbythenewqualityofmigrationprocesses)seemtobepartic-
ularlyimportanttoresearchers,academicteachers,educationpoliticians,teach-
ersandpractitionersaswellasspecialistsintheareaofdiagnosticprocesses
andschooladaptationofculturallydifferentchildreninhostsocieties.
Theconsequencesofmigration,refugeeismandtheprocessesofglobal
transformationsareofequalimportanceinthedimensionofempiricaland
theoreticalanalyses.Theseareprocessesrelatedtomulticulturaleducationas
wellasinterculturalcommunicationatschoolandinenvironmentsthatsupport
children,youthandadults.Withregardtothetopicalityofproblemsfacedby
peopleinmulticulturalsocieties,weanalysethemthroughtheprismofinterdis-
ciplinaryexchangeofresearchandpracticalexperiences.
Theproblemsaddressedinthismonographrefertochildrenandadolescents
aswellasadultswhorequiresupportduetotheirdifficultcircumstances.These
circumstancesincludeawiderangeofcontextsinwhichtheyfunction,their
variedsocialordevelopmentalsituationsandfinally,theirsocio-psychological
entanglementinethnic,national,culturalandsocial-diverseenvironmentsof
theadultworld.
