Theabovelistofuncertaintiesregardingtheconsequencesofsomuch
ambiguityinthemeaningofthetruthandtruthfulnessisnotcomplete.
Thefollowingareamongthemanycriteriaforassessingthetruthfulnessof
propositionsandsentences,whichmaybeespeciallysuitableforeconomists:
–theonticcorrectnessandrobustnessofempiricaleconomicmodelsof
concreteeconomies;
–semanticandsyntacticcautiousnessandrespectforusingtheproper
meaningofeconomicconceptsandconceptsfromotherfieldsofscience;
–clearuseoftherulesoflogicandmathematicsinformulatingtheform
ofeconomicmodels,theoriesconfirmedbycompetentreviewers;
–constantverificationofeconomicsentencesusingneweconomicfacts,
newfactualperceptionsabouteconomicevents,phenomena,processes
andnewbehaviorpatternsamongeconomicagents,aswellaschecking
thesesentencesscientificvalidityandempiricaltruthfulness;
–clearandeffectiveuseofnewmethodsofperceiving,observation,ex-
perimentation,description,explanation,verification,inordertoin-
creasethereliabilityofchecking,discovering,confirmingthetruthful-
nessofsentences,theoriesofthefunctioningofeconomicunitsand
entitiesortheoriesofeconomicprocesses.
Summingupourreflectionsabouttheconditionsandcriteriaforassess-
ingtruthfulnessinthecontextofthe21definitionsoftruthgivenabove,it
shouldbesaidthat:
–theuseofallthedefinitions(exceptperhapsDT13)requirestheap-
plicationoflogicalcriteriafortruthfulness;
–theuseofdefinitionsDT1,DT2,DT5,DT17,DT20,DT21requiresthe
applicationofmathematicalandstatisticalcriteriafortruthfulness;
–theuseofdefinitionsDT4,DT7,DT16,DT18–DT21requiresapplica-
tionoftruthfulnesscriteriafromanalytical,ontologicalortraditional
epistemologicalphilosophy;
