tobuildpoliticalalliances.Theresearchisacasestudyconcerningan
attempttobringthenon-alignedcountriescloserthroughtheGamesofNew
EmergingForces(GANEFO).Theaimoftheresearchistoestablishwhether
theGANEFOwereinfactanattempttocreateapoliticalalliance.This
initiativewasdevelopedbycommunistChinaandIndonesia,thereforethe
researchalsoreferstotheirpoliticalmotivationsconcerningtheevent.This
allowedtestingofthehypothesisthattheGANEFOwerethesimultaneous
resultofindependentsportsdiplomaciespursuedbyBeijingandJakarta,
eventhoughtheycooperated.
