Today,thePersianGulfholds40%ofprovenglobalgasreserves,with
nearly30%inIranandQataralone,accordingtotheJanuary2013Oiland
GasJournal(OGJ).Thus,theroleofthePersianGulf’snaturalgasingeneral
andLNGsuppliesfromQatar(actual)andIran(potential),inparticular,tothe
EUoverall—viaUK,France,SpainandItalyspecifically—willbeanalysed.
Therefore,this“newvisionofenergysecurity,”basedonaclassification
schemeofenergysecurityindicators(acceptability,availability,affordability,
andaccessibility13),isthestartingpointfortestingthemagainsttheEU’s
variousactualandpotentialLNGsupplierstoclarifyandrankthemost
appropriatesuppliersinthecomingyearsinordertoachievethehighest
securityofthegassupply.
Thisresearchiscomprisedofanintroductionandfivesections,followed
byaconclusion.Inthefirstpart,currentliteraturewillbereviewed,and
theninthesecond,thethreeappliedtheoriesaswellastheterminologyof
energysecurityareexplainedindetail.ThethirdpartisdevotedtoEUenergy
mattersandpolicy,inadditionofaprefacetothe“goldenageofgas.”Inthe
fourthsection,thestudywillfocusontheoverallgeopoliticsandissuesof
PersianGulfgas,followedbythespecificgeopoliticsofgasfromIranand
Qatarandtheirgrandstrategies.Inpartfive,thefourindicatorsofenergy
securitywillbetestedagainstthemajoractualandpotentialLNGsuppliers
totheEUinordertoclarifythepositionofthePersianGulfamongthem.In
theconclusion,thefindingsoftheresearchwillbediscussedandtheresults
andanalysiscategorisedinordertotesttheresearchhypothesis.
