theformoforganicmaterial.
Tusbottomsedimentsrepresentthemaindepositofcadmiumin
aquaticecosystems.Cadmiumboundtosedimentsisrelativelyunavail-
abletolivingorganisms.Ontheotherhand,underspecificphysicaland
chemicalconditionscadmiummaybemobilisedtowaterintheformof
solublecompounds.Tecadmiumcontentinwater,bottomsediments,
cadmiumspeciation,mobilisationandbioavailabilitymaybethusstrongly
relatedtothespecificconditionsoccurringinspecificwaterhabitats.Inthe
presentwork,theinterdependencebetweencadmiumdepositioninwater,
sedimentsandtissuesofaquaticanimalsistakenintoconsideration.Te
studiespresentedherewereconductedonfreshwatermusselsfromtwodif-
ferentreservoirsinSouthernPoland,namelytheoldriverbedoftheNida
RiverinPińczów(Świętokrzyskiedistrict)andRożnówartificiallakenear
NowySącz(Małopolskadistrict).Additionally,cadmiumbiologicalefects
measuredasitsefectonsodiumtopotassiumratioareconsidered.
Results
Cadmiumlevelinwaterwassimilarinbothlakes.WaterinPińczów
reservoircontained156.02±18.38(±SD)µgL-1cadmium.Teconcentra-
tionofcadmiuminwaterinRożnówLakewas135.33±14.50(Table3).
Tediferencesbetweenbothlakeswerestatisticallyinsignificant(p=0.170).
CadmiumcontentinsedimentsinRożnówLakewas889.67µgg-1dry
mass(d.m.).InsedimentsofPińczówreservoircadmiumconcentrationwas
275.56µgg-1d.m.(Table3).Tediferencesbetweencadmiumcontentin
sedimentsofbothlakeswerestatisticallysignificant(p=0.000).Freshwa-
termusselsfromRożnówLakecontainedmorecadmiuminalltestedor-
gansthanthemusselsfromPińczów.Cadmiumconcentrationinmussels
fromRożnówLakerangedbetween1.68±0.24µgg-1d.m.(inmantle)and
3.49±0.25µgg-1d.m.(ingills).InmusselsfromPińczówreservoircadmium
contentwasbetween0.36±0.07µgg-1d.m.(infoot)and2.60±0.11µgg-1
d.m.(ingills).Tediferencesbetweenallthetestedtissuesofanimalsfrom
diferentreservoirsindicatedbyMANOVAtestwerestatisticallysignificant
