Abstract:inthepresenttextweoutlineselectedbiographicaldatafromthelifeandactivity
ofaPolish-Jewishpedagogue,authorandpaediatrician,JanuszKorczak.Werefertofrag-
mentsofhispedagogicaltextsandautobiographicalwritingaimingtopresentKorczak’s
ideaofchildren’srightsandtoshowwhyhiseducationallegacyisrelevanttocontemporary
everydayreality.
ThecharacteristicstotheapproachofKorczak’shumanisticeducationarebasedonseveral
elements:
Thechildistobefullyrecognized
Theremustberespectfortheverybeingofthechild
Youmustgivethechildconfidenceandjoyinhischildhood
TheseelementswereexpressedinactsofdailylifeintheorphanageasislearntfromKorc-
zak’stextsandfromthememoriesofthegraduatesandcounselors.Whatdistinguishes
theseelementsistheorganizedfoundationofcommunallifeoftheorphanage.
