isacertificateofhisachievements,atestimonytohisactivity,adefenseagainst
possiblecharges.Itisapricelessresearchmaterial.19
Reachingoutbeyondtheseinstitutions,KorczakfoundedTheLittleReview
asaweeklysupplementtothePolish-languageJewishdailyNaszPrzegląd(Our
Journal)in1926.Thechildren’sweeklyappearedeachFridayfor13years.The
readersofthepaperwerebothPolishandJewishchildrenanditsuniquenesswasin
thefactthatitwasproducedalmostentirelybychildren.
Attheoutset(1926)thesub-titleofthenewspaperwasnPismoDlaDzieci
iMłodziezy”andwaschangedattheendofMarch,1929tonPismoDzieci
iMłodziezy”.ThePolishwordnDLA”meaningnfor”wasomittedsoinstead
ofnANewspaperfortheChildren”thenewsub-titlereadnTheChildren’s
newspaper.”20
Theyoungwriterswroteaboutthemselves,raisedcomplaints,askedforadvice
andhelp,wroteaboutproblemstheyfacedwiththeirparentsandteachersand
forwardedideasandnewsubjectsforthenewspaper.Sometimesthereappearedan
articleaboutapublicproblemandhowitwassolved.Therewereeditionsonspecial
subjectsandattimescompetitionswereannounced.Therewasanattempttocorre-
spondwithchildrenfromtheLandofIsraelespeciallywithchildrenfromKibbutz
EinHarodwhereKorczakspentmostofhistimeonhistwovisitstoPalestine(1934
/1936).21
Creatingaschoolnewspaperenablesmulti-disciplinaryinteraction.Itisauseful
toolthatcanbridgethegapsinheterogeneousclassesenablingpupilsofvaried
levelsandagegroupstosucceedinthedomainthattheyfeelmostcompetentand
confident.Byproducingajournalasalearningenvironment,pupilswillenjoythe
fruitofafinaldocumentthateachinhisownwaycontributedtoitscreation.Itcan
bethevehicleforpupilsandteacherstoexperiencemeaningandpurposeintheir
schoollivesandcanproduceapositivechangeontheschoolenvironmentreflecting
thevaluesandgoalsadoptedbytheschoolandexemplifyingthevirtueschildren
learnintheclassroom.nInaneducationalinstitutionwithoutanewspaperthestaf
seemtomeuncoordinatedanddesperate,potteringandgrumbling,goingaround
incircles,leavingthechildrenwithoutorientationandcontrol,proceedingad-hoc
