Tebeginningsofbasketballofhearingpeopledatebackto1891,whenthe
firstbasketballmatchwasplayedinSpringfield(theUSA).In1904,bas-
ketballwasintroducedasademonstrationeventattheOlympicGamesin
SaintLouis(theUSA).BasketballfirstbecameanOlympicdisciplineatthe
1936OlympicsinBerlin.Since1950,theFIBABasketballWorldCup(pre-
viously:theFIBAWorldCup)hasbeenheldregularlyevery4years.Te
viewthatbasketballisasportthatrequirescomprehensiveeye-handcoor-
dinationhasbecomeestablishedinthepublicconsciousness.Nevertheless,
peoplewithdisabilitieshavebeenprovingforalmost70yearsthatcom-
petitivesportcanalsobetheirparticipation.Almostparalleltothedevel-
opmentofhearingbasketball,Deafbasketballdeveloped.Alreadyin1949,
basketballbecameoneofthesportsdisciplinesduringtheGamesofthe
DeafinDenmark.Alittlelater,in1975,thefirstEuropeanDeafBasketball
Championshipswereheld.
Terulesofdeafbasketballarethesameasthosepracticedbyhearing
athletes.Tesamerulesapplytoboth.Tedińerenceisinthegameitself.
Deafathleteshaveworseconditionsforpracticingsports:noorlimited
verbalcontact,theneedtobasethegameonvisualstimuli,limitedcontact
withthecoachduringthematch,limitedaccesstosportshalls,nocooper-
ationwithreputablecoachesinclubsforthedeaf,limitedopportunitiesto
