InEurope,theorganizerofsportseventsistheEuropeanOrganizationfor
theSportoftheDeaf(EDSO).EDSObeganoperatingin1983.Currently,
itbringstogethersportsfederationsfrom40Europeancountries(50,000
athletes,1,000sportsclubs).EDSO,incooperationwithICSDandnational
federations,organizeschampionshipsin29sportsinvariousagecategories.
TeEuropeanDeafBasketballChampionshipisverypoorlydocu-
mented.Itisinvaintolookforreliable,comprehensiveinformationonthis
subject.TefirstEuropeanBasketballChampionshipsfortheDeafwere
playedfrom3rdto5thNovember1975inTurku,Finland.Table2liststhe
gamesinchronologicalorder.
InPoland,therepresentativeofsportsclubsforthedeafisthePolish
AssociationofDeafSports(PZSN)basedinLublin.PZSNassociatesabout
30clubswhichgatheraproximately1800players,whotrainsportsdisci-
plinessuchas:athletics,basketball,volleyball,swimming,football,tennis,
judo,wrestling,bowling,badminton,cycling,karate,taekwondo,chess,
sailing,skiing,snowboarding.
