Introduction
Populationmigrationsareanextremelycomplexandmultifacetedphe-
nomenon.Understandingtheissuesofpopulationflowsrequiresacom-
binationofeconomic,cultural,sociological,psychological,demographic,
legalandpoliticalaspects.Inaddition,migrationsundergopermanent
transformationsovertime,whichcausesmanydefinitionproblemsand
difcultiesinshapingmigrationpoliciesofcountries.Inrecentyears,
migrationprocesseshavebeenidentifiedwithathreattogenerallyun-
derstoodsecurity,whichmakesthemthesubjectofresearchbymany
scientists.
ThecrisisinUkraine,relatedtotheannexationofCrimeainMarch
2014,resultedinincreasedemigrationofcitizensofthiscountry.Poland,
duetoitsgeographicallocation,iscurrentlyoneofthemaindestinations
ofmigrantsfromacrosstheeasternborder.
Duetothedramaticeconomicsituationandpoliticalinstabilityin
Ukraine,Ukrainiansareguidedmainlybyearningmotiveswhendecid-
ingtoemigrate.Economicmotivesforthedepartureofimmigrantsin
connectionwiththeunprecedentedscaleofmigrationtoPolandinre-
centyears,itmaybeanopportunityfortheeconomicdevelopmentof
thecountry,butatthesametimeitmayleadtoconflictsonthebasisof
nationality,culture,occupationofjobsinthecountrybyforeigners.There
isnodoubt,therefore,thatthecurrentinfluxofpeopleintotheterritory
ofPolandshouldbemanagedinanefectivemanner.
Butisitnottoolatetodevelopamigrationpolicyaimedatretaining
immigrantsfromUkraine?Hastheopeningoftheeasternbordernot
madeourcountrylessattractiveintermsofsalaries?comparedtoWest-
erncountries,whichareabletoefectivelycompeteformoreemployee
resources?IstheinfluxofUkrainiansathreatoranopportunityforeco-
nomicdevelopmentforPoles,whichweshoulduseassoonaspossible?
