Summary
Theevolutionofutopiaasaliterarygenrewasrelated,amongotherthings,withthe
movefromeutopia,agoodnon-place,toeuchronia,agoodplaceinthefuture.This
changeoccurredinthemid18thcenturyandwasresultoftheevolutionthathastaken
placeinthehumanmentalityundertheinfluenceoftheEnlightenmentideas,especially
theideaofinevitableprogress.Humanitybelievedinthepossibilityofachievingperfec-
tiononearth.TherapidapplicationoftheseconceptsinFranceyieldedanumber
ofeuchroniasinnationalliteratureasearlyasthesecondhalfofthe18thcentury.In
England,theideaofprogressintheMarxistvariant,i.e.,linkingprogresswithhistorical
determinism,appearedinthelate19thcentury.Theaimofthearticleistopointoutthe
Croatianpathofapplyingtheideaofprogressandtoattempttodemonstratethetransfer
ofcontentrelatedtoittothefirstCroatianeuchronia—thenovelNaPacifikugod.2255.
