However,contemplationisnotassociatedwithwithdrawingfrom

theworld.Itisnotconnectedwithquietismorpassivityinthelifeworld.

Itisratherconnectedwiththecreationofanewperspectiveandnew

wayofacting.Contemplationcouldbeconnectedwithengagement

inworldlyaffairs(Walsh2016:31-32).Generally,contemplationis

associatedwiththepsychologicalworkofthemind.Themindfulness

movementalsounderlinesthiskindofunderstanding(Kabat-Zin1994,

2005).However,contemplationcouldbearealtransformationofthe

subjectbyreleasingtheculturalfiltersofperceptionandtheopening

upofourperspectivetotheOtherandtotheSelf,Societyandthe

Nature.Thishelpstoseethesocialworldmoreholistically.

Contemplationcouldalsobeseenasamodelforcommunity

development.Mindfulnessbasedintervention(MBI)issuchamethod.

DuringthemeditationpracticeinMBI,relationsareco-created.There

isanethicalcomponentofbeingtogether,whichalsohasasublimeand

aestheticcomponent.Thebodythatisinthepresentandbecomesopen

toobserve,togetherwiththemindwork,showthatnon-doingisakind

ofmodelwherebyalackofhierarchyandnon-pathologizingapproach

canbepractisedandhastheeffectsontheindividuals(McCown2016).

Acommunitycanarise,withfriendshipasthebasisforthesocial

relations,fromtheindividualandsingulareffortsofcontemplation.

Wecanloseself-boundariesandenterofthestateofbelongingtoone

another(ibid.:122-124).

Atthesametimehowever,weshouldbearinmindthattheconcept

ofcommunityshouldbecarefullyandrationallycontemplated.Being

together,mutualinfluencingeachother,co-creation,belongingto

others,andbeingonecouldhaveunder,someconditionsandinsome

historicalmoments,fatefuleffectforindividualfreedom.Wecouldlose

thesenseofindividualityandtheethicalresponsibilityofanindividual,

singularperson.Whenthecommunitydoesnotrespecttheethical

freedomofindividuals,butonlythecommunalone,thiscanleadto

internalizinganauthoritarianattitudeinsteadofacommunityone

basedonfriendship.WhentheindividualHI”issubordinatedtothe

generalHMe”therecanbenorationallyandethically-baseddecisions
