Abstract:Teamountandqualityofsleepcanhaveasignificantimpactonphysicalactivity,and
thisisespeciallyimportantamongpeopleparticipatinginhigh-levelsportscompetitions.Sleep
isoneofthebasictoolsofregenerationamongathletes,thereforetheyshouldhaveknowledge
aboutsleephygiene.Sleephygieneisbehaviorsandhabitswhoseregularuseisintendedto
improvethelengthandqualityofsleep.Tequalityespeciallyisimportantintheadaptationof
athletestohightrainingloads.Amongthebehaviorsconducivetoimprovingsleepareensur-
ingtherighttemperatureandhumidityintheroomwherewesleep,avoidinghighactivityand
largemealsinashortperiodoftimefromsleep,oravoidingexposuretobluelight,whichmay
interferewiththesecretionofmelatonin,thesleephormone.
TestudyofknowledgeonsleephygieneamonginstructorsandcompetitorsofthePolish
Taekwon-doFederationwasconductedusingaproprietary,self-returnonlineform.75people(20
instructorsand55contenders)tookpartinthestudy.Tetaskoftherespondentswastoanswer
questionsabout,amongothers,thedefinitionofsleephygieneandhabitsthatimprovethequality
ofsleep(includingexposuretobluelight,cafeineconsumptionandlarge-volumemeals).Inthe
questionregardingthedefinitionofsleephygiene,about95%oftherespondentsgavethecorrect
answer,indicatingthatsleephygieneisahabitthatissupposedtoensureregularandhealthysleep.
Inthefollowingquestions,therespondentswereaskedtodeterminetowhatextenttheyagreed
withthestatementsregardingbehaviorsthathaveadirectimpactonmaintainingahealthysleep.
Terespondentsanswered“definitelyyes”mostofentoquestionsconcerningminimizingnoise
levels(approx.83%),airingtheroom(80%ofrespondents),minimizingexposuretobluelight
intheevening(nearly67%ofrespondents),alcoholconsumptionasasleepaidbutinanegative
wayafectingthequalityofsleep(64%ofrespondents),maintainingregulartimesofwakingup
andfallingasleep,andthepositiveimpactofthishabitonmaintainingsleephygiene(slightly
morethan77%ofrespondents).Terespondentswerealsoaskedabouttheimpactofsleepon
theregenerationofthebody,themajority(morethan89%oftherespondents)stronglyagreed
thatsleepdisorderscanleadtoadeteriorationofexercisecapacity.Inthequestionregarding
